Private equity firm Warburg Pincus and Wipro Technologies are in advanced discussions to acquire the Digital Transformation Solutions (DTS) business of Harman India, potentially valuing the unit at about $500 million (around Rs 4,375 crore), according to people familiar with the matter. Harman, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics and known globally for audio brands like JBL, Harman Kardon, and Infinity, operates its DTS arm across eight Indian cities with a workforce of more than 9,000. The DTS division focuses on connected products, enterprise automation solutions, and digital transformation services across sectors such as healthcare, communications, and industrial applications. Deutsche Bank is advising Harman on the potential deal, while representatives from Warburg, Wipro, and Harman have not publicly commented.
Harman has collaborated with Wipro since entering India in 2008, including through the Harman India Development Centre housed within Wipro facilities in Bengaluru and Chennai. For Wipro, the acquisition aligns with its ongoing strategy to strengthen engineering and digital transformation capabilities. Warburg’s involvement signals the private equity firm’s continued interest in technology-enabled services in India. Samsung, having acquired Harman International in 2017 for about $8 billion, may view this carve-out as a way to sharpen focus on its core automotive electronics and consumer tech businesses.
