Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated a new data centre built by US-based digital infrastructure company Equinix near Chennai, marking a significant technology investment in the region. The facility, backed by an initial investment of about $65 million (around ₹574 crore), is located in the SIPCOT IT Park at Siruseri in Chengalpattu district and is designed to support high-performance cloud services, connectivity and artificial intelligence workloads. Equinix, known globally for its interconnection and data centre services, aims to use this facility to boost digital infrastructure and attract more global and domestic tech investment to the state.
The event included senior officials from the Tamil Nadu government and representatives of Equinix. Officials highlighted how the data centre will enhance the state’s reputation as a digital and tech hub and strengthen support for enterprises that rely on secure, high-speed data services. The facility’s connectivity to international networks and other Indian nodes will benefit businesses focused on cloud computing, AI and next-generation digital services. The inauguration reflects Tamil Nadu’s broader push to develop robust digital infrastructure and draw foreign direct investment into the technology sector.
