Hyderabad | 16 February 2026: French pharmaceutical giant Sanofi has announced a massive expansion of its Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad, doubling the workforce to 4,500 employees and adding over 2.7 lakh square meters of workspace at its Hitech City campus. They are positioning the Indian operations as a primary engine for global R&D, digital health innovation, and intelligent automation

Scaling the Frontier: A Hub of Global Significance

The expansion forms part of Sanofi’s €400 million investment commitment toward India capability centers through the end of the decade. Originally projected to scale to 2,600 employees, the upward revision to 4,500 signals a deeper integration of India into Sanofi’s global operating model.

“As an R&D-driven, AI powered biopharma company, we never lose sight of what truly drives each of us – improving people’s lives. India’s exceptional talent pool in digital innovation, AI, and data science is instrumental in accelerating our transformation and advancing our mission.”

– Madeleine Roach, EVP & Head – Business Operations at Sanofi

Since its launch in 2019 as a medical services support unit, the Hyderabad GCC has evolved into a multi-functional pharmaceutical R&D and AI hub. The expanded center will focus on:

  • AI in drug discovery and data science: Machine learning models, predictive analytics, and digital health platforms aimed at improving research productivity and patient outcomes.
  • Pharmaceutical R&D operations: Protocol design, clinical trial analytics, regulatory documentation, and research pipeline optimization.
  • Intelligent automation in pharma manufacturing: Robotics and process automation to improve global supply chain efficiency.
  • Enterprise operations: Integrated commercial, finance, procurement, and HR systems supporting global functions.

Looking Ahead

Sanofi’s expanded investment signals long-term confidence in India as a strategic pharmaceutical R&D hub. Drug development timelines often extend beyond a decade, and scaling AI-driven research infrastructure in Hyderabad indicates that India will play a sustained role in future product pipelines.

“We have followed through on our commitment made in 2024 when we opened this campus. This expansion not only strengthens our global capabilities but also reinforces our dedication to empowering the local workforce, fostering innovation, and contributing meaningfully to Hyderabad’s position as a premier destination for pharmaceutical and healthcare excellence

– Mrinal Duggal, Head of Hyderabad Global Hub, Sanofi

The workforce expansion suggests that India is no longer viewed solely as a cost-efficient support location, but as a center for high-value pharmaceutical innovation. As AI in drug discovery, clinical trial optimization, and digital therapeutics continues to evolve, Hyderabad’s role within Sanofi’s global research network is expected to deepen.

“The expansion of Sanofi’s Global Capability Centre in Hyderabad reflects Telangana’s growing stature as a global hub for innovation-driven life sciences and strengthens our vision of creating high-skilled employment.”

– Shri Revanth Reddy, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Telangana

The long-term impact will be measured by the integration of Hyderabad-led research into global drug approvals, clinical advancements, and commercial launches. If AI models and R&D workflows developed in India contribute meaningfully to new therapies reaching patients, the expansion will reinforce India’s position as a leading global pharmaceutical innovation hub and accelerate additional biopharma investment into the region.
