Spearheaded by its regional division, Liebherr CMCtec India, the expansion is designed to scale the company’s Global Capability Centre (GCC) operations and deepen support for global engineering, digital, sourcing, and business functions.
The development echoes a bigger ongoing shift across the industrial manufacturing landscape. European engineering and industrial conglomerates are increasingly moving beyond traditional shared services and cost optimization models, establishing specialized capability centres in engineering-intensive markets such as Pune to centralize critical knowledge, strengthen product engineering capabilities, and integrate digital technologies more deeply into global operations.

Expanding the Engineering and Enterprise Mandate
Moving beyond conventional shared services models, the Pune facility has been designed as an integrated capability centre supporting multiple business functions across Liebherr’s global operations. The functional architecture of the expanded centre includes:
- Product Engineering and Design Support: Engineering teams will collaborate with global business units and manufacturing locations to support design activities, product optimization initiatives, and engineering workflows across Liebherr’s diverse product portfolio.
- Enterprise IT and Digital Operations: The centre will contribute to enterprise technology operations, digital infrastructure management, cybersecurity initiatives, and the deployment of standardized digital platforms across business units.
- Strategic Sourcing and Procurement Support: Specialized teams will support sourcing operations, supplier collaboration, procurement processes, and supply chain coordination across global markets.
- Finance and Order Management: The facility will also provide support for finance operations, transaction management, and order processing activities for international business units.
This integrated operating model is intended to improve collaboration across functions while increasing the agility and scalability of Liebherr’s global operations and to elevate the parent company’s operational velocity.
