Chennai | 13 February 2026: KLA Corporation, a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing equipment and process control solutions, has announced a $400 million investment to establish a large-scale Research and Development campus in Chennai. Formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Tamil Nadu, the 12-acre campus will have a potential built-up capacity of 1.5 million square feet and is expected to create up to 4,000 high-skilled semiconductor engineering jobs over the next decade.
Scaling the Frontier of Semiconductor Engineering
The Chennai facility will become KLA’s largest integrated R&D campus outside its California headquarters. It will focus on high-performance computing, semiconductor process control software, advanced metrology systems, and process-enabling technologies used in chip manufacturing.
KLA develops inspection and metrology equipment that semiconductor manufacturers use to detect defects and optimize production yields. These systems are critical to ensuring chips meet performance specifications, particularly at advanced technology nodes where nanometer-scale precision determines manufacturing success.
“India has been a critical part of KLA’s global growth story for over two decades. This MoU continues our long-term vision to scale India as a global centre for AI- and software-led semiconductor innovation.”
– Dominic David, President of KLA India
The scale of the campus signals confidence in India’s semiconductor engineering capabilities. The projected 4,000 jobs will include roles in process engineering, optical systems design, embedded systems, software development, and AI-driven data analytics for semiconductor manufacturing. These functions require expertise in semiconductor physics, computational modeling, advanced optics, and large-scale data processing.
