BENGALURU | 24 August 2026: German semiconductor major Infineon Technologies has announced the acquisition of Bengaluru-based C2i Semiconductors, strengthening its capabilities in power-management technologies for AI data centres and expanding its global R&D footprint in India.
C2i specialises in software-defined multiphase controllers, smart power stages and system-level power architectures designed for AI data-centre applications. The acquisition will add this specialised expertise to Infineon’s portfolio of power semiconductor technologies and create a new Centre of Excellence for digital power technologies in India. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026.
The development is significant beyond the transaction itself. It places Bengaluru-developed deep-tech capability and IP directly into Infineon’s global innovation network, reflecting the expanding role of India in the design of technologies underpinning next-generation AI infrastructure.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- A New Digital Power CoE: Infineon will establish a Centre of Excellence for digital power technologies in India, strengthening the country’s role within its global R&D network.
- AI Infrastructure at the Core: C2i’s expertise covers software-defined power management, multiphase controllers and system-level power architectures for increasingly demanding AI data-centre environments.
- Vertical Power Delivery: The combined capabilities will support next-generation vertical power delivery architectures, including Substrate Integrated Voltage Regulators (SIVR), designed to address the growing power-density requirements of AI processors.
- India’s Deep-Tech Scale: The transaction adds specialised expertise to Infineon’s existing Indian engineering base of approximately 2,800 employees.
- From Startup Innovation to Global Scale: C2i’s specialised technology will be combined with Infineon’s global semiconductor portfolio, application expertise and manufacturing capabilities across silicon, silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN).
Headquartered in Neubiberg, Germany, Infineon Technologies AG is a publicly traded multinational semiconductor manufacturer that generated €14.66 billion in FY25 revenue with a global workforce of approximately 57,000 across its automotive, power systems, and edge systems divisions. The enterprise maintains a robust R&D footprint in Bengaluru with over 2,800 employees; a capability base it is now expanding through the integration of C2i Semiconductors.
Established in Bengaluru, C2i is a fabless semiconductor startup specializing in software-defined power management integrated circuits (PMICs) and vertical power delivery architectures designed to stabilize energy consumption for high-performance GPUs in AI data centers. Prior to the acquisition, the startup had secured $35.7 million in institutional funding from deep-tech investors including Peak XV Partners, TDK Ventures, and semiconductor industry veteran Lip-Bu Tan
WHY POWER MANAGEMENT IS BECOMING AN AI INFRASTRUCTURE IMPERATIVE
The rapid deployment of AI accelerators is creating a new engineering challenge for data-centre operators: how to deliver increasing amounts of power efficiently, reliably and responsively to increasingly power-dense computing systems.
AI processors generate highly dynamic power requirements as workloads change. This places greater demands on power-delivery systems to respond rapidly while maintaining efficiency and system stability. C2i’s software-defined approach combines advanced power semiconductors, digital control and software algorithms to optimise power conversion, regulation and system performance in real time. Its system-level architecture spans the power-delivery path from the grid to the processor core. For Infineon, the acquisition therefore extends its AI data-centre proposition beyond individual semiconductor components towards integrated power-delivery architectures.
