Boston Scientific Expands India GCC Footprint in Pune

May 08, 2026 | Pune: Global medical technology leader Boston Scientific has significantly expanded its India presence by leasing more than 1.3 lakh sq. ft. of office space in Pune’s Wakad micro-market to strengthen its Global Capability Center (GCC) operations in India.

Founded in 1979 and headquartered in Marlborough, Massachusetts, Boston Scientific is one of the world’s leading medical technology companies focused on advancing healthcare through innovative medical solutions and minimally invasive technologies. The company develops and manufactures a broad portfolio of devices and therapies used across interventional cardiology, cardiac rhythm management, electrophysiology, endoscopy, urology, neuromodulation, peripheral interventions, and surgical specialties. Boston Scientific operates in more than 100 countries and serves millions of patients globally through its extensive healthcare and hospital ecosystem. The company has consistently invested in digital health, AI-enabled healthcare technologies, connected medical devices, and enterprise innovation capabilities to strengthen patient outcomes and operational efficiency. In recent years, Boston Scientific has also expanded its global capability and engineering operations across India, leveraging the country’s strong talent ecosystem for technology development, analytics, enterprise operations, digital engineering, and healthcare innovation initiatives.

The long-term lease agreement, spanning nearly 9.5 years, reflects the growing strategic importance of India within the company’s global operations and reinforces Pune’s emergence as a major destination for healthcare, life sciences, and technology GCCs.

According to property registration documents accessed by industry sources, Boston Scientific Technology and Engineering Services Private Limited has leased approximately 1,30,682 sq. ft. across the sixth and seventh floors of Eon West LP II, Tower D in Wakad, Pune. The lease commenced on April 1, 2026, with a reported monthly rental commitment of approximately ₹86.58 lakh.

The agreement also includes an expansion option for an additional floor until March 2027, signalling potential future growth of the company’s India operations. The development is another strong indicator of how multinational healthcare and medical technology firms are increasingly leveraging India-based GCCs for:

  • Digital engineering
  • R&D support
  • Enterprise technology
  • AI and analytics
  • Shared services
  • Product development
  • Global operations management

Boston Scientific’s expansion comes amid sustained growth across India’s GCC ecosystem, particularly in Pune, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai, where multinational corporations are scaling large capability centres to support enterprise transformation and innovation initiatives globally.

Pune, in particular, is witnessing accelerated GCC-led office leasing activity. Industry reports indicate that GCCs accounted for nearly half of Pune’s commercial office leasing activity during recent quarters, driven by strong demand from multinational enterprises across healthcare, banking, engineering, and technology sectors.

The Wakad-Baner-Hinjewadi corridor has emerged as a key growth cluster due to:

  • Strong engineering and technology talent availability
  • Expanding Grade-A commercial infrastructure
  • Connectivity improvements
  • Competitive operating economics
  • Growing managed workspace ecosystems

Recent large GCC-linked office transactions in Pune include expansion initiatives by companies such as Accenture, WeWork India, Maersk, and Welspun Enterprises, highlighting sustained enterprise confidence in the city’s commercial ecosystem.

For Boston Scientific, the India expansion aligns with broader global trends reshaping the healthcare GCC landscape:

  • Increased investment in digital health capabilities
  • AI-led healthcare operations transformation
  • Expansion of global engineering hubs
  • Integrated enterprise support models
  • Scalable innovation ecosystems

The medical technology sector has increasingly been using India not only for operational scale, but also for high-value capabilities including clinical technology, healthcare analytics, automation, cloud engineering, cybersecurity, and digital product support.

The long-duration lease commitment by Boston Scientific also reflects the evolving maturity of India’s GCC ecosystem, where enterprises are making sustained long-term investments in strategic capability hubs rather than short-term delivery centers.

Industry Perspective

The industry continues to see a strong momentum across healthcare, med-tech, and life sciences GCCs as organizations accelerate investments in India-led innovation, digital capability scaling, AI transformation, and enterprise operations modernization. Boston Scientific’s Pune expansion further reinforces India’s position as a global destination for next-generation GCC growth and enterprise capability transformation.
