CHENNAI | 15 August 2026: BDO India and BDO UAE have expanded their cross-border delivery model with a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Chennai, strengthening the India-based capabilities supporting BDO UAE and its clients.

The development builds on BDO’s broader use of India-based Centres of Excellence to provide accounting, tax, advisory, outsourcing and technology-enabled services to BDO member firms globally. BDO India already operates BDO EDGE, an India-based CoE established through a joint venture between BDO member firms in India, the US, UK and Germany.

The Chennai initiative adds another dimension to this model, with specialised finance and accounting capabilities supporting requirements across the UAE market.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • India-UAE capability link: The Chennai CoE strengthens collaboration between BDO India and BDO UAE, enabling India-based professionals to support the UAE firm’s client and engagement requirements.
  • Finance and accounting focus: The capability model covers areas including financial reporting, accounting advisory, compliance and process optimisation, supported by specialised technical expertise.
  • Multi-geography expertise: BDO India’s CoE model includes capabilities in multi-GAAP and multi-geography financial reporting, helping organisations address differing accounting and reporting requirements.
  • Chennai as a delivery location: The expansion adds to BDO India’s established presence in Chennai and strengthens the city’s role in supporting globally distributed professional-services operations. BDO India currently has operations across 20 offices in 14 cities and more than 12,500 professionals, including its Shared Services Centres and Centres of Excellence.

Founded in 1963 and headquartered in Zaventem, Belgium, BDO (an acronym for Binder Dijker Otte – named after three founding European firms) operates as a leading international professional services network of public accounting, tax, and consulting firms. Functioning accounting network globally, the organization is composed of independent member firms coordinated by BDO Global Coordination B.V. Demonstrating massive operational scale, BDO Global is the world’s fifth-largest accounting and advisory network. The network generated US$15 billion in global revenue during the 2024 financial year, powered by a workforce of over 119,000 professionals deployed across more than 165 countries.

Operating as a critical node within this vast ecosystem, BDO India provides high-tier advisory and assurance capabilities. As the UAE economy rapidly diversifies implementing stringent new corporate tax policies and complex governance frameworks Middle Eastern enterprises are demanding highly sophisticated financial counsel.

BUILDING CROSS-BORDER FINANCE CAPABILITIES

The Chennai CoE reflects the growing role of India-based specialist teams in supporting global professional-services organisations. Rather than being limited to transactional processing, the model combines technical accounting expertise, reporting capabilities and advisory support for cross-border requirements.

BDO India’s existing Centre of Excellence for finance provides a range of capabilities including:

  • Multi-GAAP & Multi-Geography Reporting: Preparation of financial information and reporting packages across different accounting standards and geographies.
  • Financial Statement Closure Review: The firm’s Fast Close offering focuses on optimising month-end and year-end closure processes to improve accuracy, reduce cycle times and enhance reporting efficiency.
  • On-Call Accounting Advisory: Specialist teams provide technical guidance and advisory support on areas including Ind AS, IFRS and US GAAP.
  • Staff Augmentation: Skilled professionals can supplement finance teams for short- or long-term requirements, supporting continuity and access to specialist expertise.

These capabilities demonstrate how India-based CoEs are increasingly being structured around specialist knowledge and standardised global delivery, rather than simply labour-arbitrage-led support.

THE INDIA-UAE CAPABILITY CORRIDOR

BDO’s India-UAE model is also not entirely new. BDO India Services has maintained dedicated operations supporting BDO UAE, with roles in areas including audit and assurance, advisory, tax and business outsourcing. Current BDO-linked hiring activity in Chennai includes positions specifically associated with UAE offshoring services, indicating an established delivery relationship between the two member firms.

This creates a broader India-UAE capability corridor in which India-based professionals can support client engagements, technical accounting requirements and other specialist functions for the UAE market. The model is particularly relevant as professional-services firms increasingly seek to combine local market expertise with scalable specialist talent pools across geographies.

Industry Insights

  1. Professional services are becoming more globalised: Accounting and advisory networks are increasingly using India-based specialist teams as extensions of their international member firms.
  2. CoEs are moving up the value chain: The focus is shifting from transactional support towards technical accounting, financial reporting, compliance, advisory and technology-enabled services. BDO EDGE’s global delivery model reflects this broader evolution.
  3. India is supporting emerging-market growth corridors: The BDO India–BDO UAE relationship demonstrates how Indian capability centres can support markets beyond the traditional US and European delivery corridors.

For Chennai, the development further strengthens the city’s positioning as a location where professional-services expertise and technology-enabled delivery can be combined to serve global markets.

FUTURE OUTLOOK

The BDO India-BDO UAE Centre of Excellence represents another example of the evolution of India’s global capability landscape, where professional-services organisations are building specialised, cross-border delivery models around domain expertise and scalable talent.

The broader significance lies in the operating model: India is increasingly being integrated directly into the delivery architecture of international professional-services networks, supporting not only transaction processing but also financial reporting, accounting advisory, compliance and other specialist capabilities.

For the GCC and shared-services ecosystem, developments such as this point towards a continued expansion of distributed Centres of Excellence serving multiple international markets from India.
