Hyderabad | 5 March 2026: Swiss biopharmaceutical manufacturing company Lonza Group AG has announced the establishment of a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad, expanding its global operating footprint and strengthening its presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing life sciences ecosystems.

The new center will support Lonza’s worldwide contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) operations, which span more than 30 sites and nearly 20,000 employees globally. The move integrates Hyderabad’s scientific and technological talent into the company’s global delivery framework.

Lonza is one of the world’s largest Contract Development and Manufacturing Organizations (CDMOs), with a 125-year legacy of transforming therapeutic discoveries into life-saving treatments. Founded in 1897 in the Swiss Alps, the company operates a global network of 30+ sites and 20,000 employees specializing in Biologics, Advanced Synthesis, and Specialized Modalities, solidifying its position as the original pioneer and global leader in drug substance and product manufacturing.

Supporting Global Biopharma Operations

The Hyderabad GCC will function as an operational and capability hub supporting Lonza’s global biopharmaceutical activities. The company evaluated several locations before selecting Hyderabad, citing the region’s life sciences ecosystem, infrastructure, and research talent.

The center is expected to contribute to multiple areas of Lonza’s global operations, including:

  • Scientific and technical support functions
  • Data, digital, and analytical capabilities
  • Operational coordination across manufacturing sites
  • Collaboration with global research and innovation teams

By establishing a base in Hyderabad, Lonza strengthens its access to a growing pool of biopharmaceutical scientists, engineers, and technology specialists.

India’s Expanding Role in Global Biopharma

We are thrilled to welcome Lonza’s decision to establish its new centre in Hyderabad. The city continues to stand out as the bright spot for global life sciences investments, driven by its strong scientific ecosystem, digital depth, and world-class manufacturing capabilities. Lonza’s investment further strengthens Telangana’s position as a preferred destination for innovation-led growth in the global biopharmaceutical industry. I am delighted that the centre has the potential to create a substantial number of new jobs over the years.

– D. Sridhar Babu, Telangana Minister for Industries and Commerce

India has increasingly become a strategic location for biopharmaceutical manufacturing, research support, and digital health capabilities. The combination of scientific expertise, regulatory knowledge, and advanced manufacturing capacity has made cities like Hyderabad attractive to multinational life sciences companies.

For Lonza, the Hyderabad GCC complements its global manufacturing and development network while strengthening its access to specialized talent in areas such as bioprocess engineering, data analytics, and pharmaceutical technology.

Lonza reported 2025 sales of CHF 6.5 billion and Core EBITDA of CHF 2.1 billion, reflecting continued demand for outsourced biopharmaceutical development and manufacturing services.

As the GCC scales, it is expected to create high-value jobs in scientific, engineering, and digital functions, further strengthening Hyderabad’s position in the global biopharmaceutical ecosystem.
