Bengaluru | 05 March 2026: MKS Instruments has inaugurated new engineering laboratories for its Vacuum Solutions Division (VSD) and Photonics Solutions Division (PSD) at the company’s Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Bengaluru. The expansion strengthens the role of the India centre in developing advanced technologies used in semiconductor manufacturing and precision industrial systems.

MKS Inc. is a global provider of foundational technology solutions dedicated to “Pushing the Boundaries of Possibility”, expertise to create critical instruments, subsystems, and specialty chemicals. The firm’s historical growth is defined by its integration of industry-leading brands-including Atotech, Spectra-Physics, Newport, and Ophir, which allows it to provide comprehensive process control solutions that optimize productivity for the world’s leading industrial companies. Focused on a vision of transforming the world through enabling technologies, MKS serves as a vital partner in semiconductor manufacturing, electronics packaging, and specialty industrial sectors like defense and automotive

Advancing Semiconductor Equipment Engineering

The newly established laboratories will focus on designing and validating technologies that are critical to semiconductor production and advanced manufacturing environments.

Engineering teams at the Bengaluru facility will work on several key technological areas, including:

  • Next-generation vacuum systems used in semiconductor fabrication
  • Remote plasma and ozone technologies for advanced manufacturing processes
  • High-precision gas analysis systems supporting fabrication environments

By expanding its engineering capabilities in Bengaluru, MKS Instruments is integrating the India centre more deeply into its global product development network.

Expanding Photonics and Optical Engineering Capabilities

Alongside semiconductor equipment engineering, the new facility will also focus on photonics technologies, an area increasingly important in industrial manufacturing systems.

The Photonics Solutions Division labs will support development work related to:

  • Industrial laser systems
  • Optical sensing technologies
  • High-precision optical components used in manufacturing equipment

The addition of the VSD and PSD labs significantly enhances our engineering capabilities and allows us to tap into Karnataka’s exceptional technical talent.

Strengthening India’s Semiconductor Ecosystem

The launch of the laboratories coincided with an industry roundtable hosted by MKS titled “From Lab to Fab: India’s Semiconductor Ecosystem Dialogue.”

The discussion brought together industry leaders and academic experts to examine the development of India’s semiconductor capabilities, particularly in areas such as advanced manufacturing equipment, materials science, and engineering talent development.

The expansion also reflects a broader trend in which global technology companies are locating deep-tech engineering work in India, including areas such as semiconductor equipment, photonics systems, and advanced manufacturing technologies.
