Hyderabad & Pune | 27 February 2026: Global steel and mining major ArcelorMittal has launched two Global Capability Centres in Hyderabad and Pune under a newly formed entity, ArcelorMittal Global Business & Technologies (AMGBT).

The initiative consolidates technology, digital, and business services functions into a structured global platform designed to support the group’s operations across Europe and other key markets.

ArcelorMittal was formed in 2006 through the merger of Arcelor and Mittal Steel, creating a world-leading steel and mining company dedicated to producing “smarter steels for people and planet.” The company is currently spearheading a major decarbonization initiative, including a €1.3 billion investment to construct an electric arc furnace in France to support a low-carbon economy. With a global reach spanning the automotive, construction, and energy industries, ArcelorMittal focuses on long-term sustainability and world-class safety performance.

Building a Centralized Digital Core

“AMGBT is already delivering globally scaled projects, marking the start of a journey toward building Centre’s of Excellence, powered by Hyderabad’s exceptional talent and team spirit”

Nik Puri, Group CIO and CISO

AMGBT is structured as a multi-functional enterprise hub, combining:

  • Digital technology and cloud systems
  • Cybersecurity operations
  • Data science and advanced analytics
  • Finance and accounting
  • Procurement and global business services

Rather than operating as a regional support extension, the dual-city setup centralizes high-impact enterprise capabilities under unified governance.

Workforce Scale and Execution Mandate

“This launch reflects our strong belief in AMGBT’s purpose and vision. We are committed to collective success by enabling an environment where people can collaborate, innovate, and grow together. Our focus is on building a workplace that empowers teams to create global impact while staying deeply connected to our values

Lalit Kumar, CEO of AMGBT

The entity has already attracted 1,100 employees and plans to add approximately 2,000 more professionals across both locations.

Hiring will span enterprise technology, analytics, cybersecurity, finance transformation, and shared services management. The expansion indicates a deliberate build-out of in-house strategic capabilities rather than reliance on external vendors for core functions.

Redesigning Global Operating Architecture

Several strategic shifts are evident:

  • Consolidation of Enterprise Control: Centralizing digital and business functions strengthens governance, improves process standardization, and accelerates global program execution.
  • Digital Industrialization at Scale: Steel manufacturing increasingly depends on real-time analytics, automation, and predictive systems. Embedding data science and cybersecurity within a centralized hub strengthens operational resilience.
  • Long-Term Talent Integration: Rapid workforce expansion signals India is not a peripheral location, but a long-horizon capability investment embedded within ArcelorMittal’s future transformation roadmap.

The dual-city model also distributes operational risk while accessing two mature talent markets — Hyderabad’s deep technology ecosystem and Pune’s strong industrial and enterprise systems base.
