India | 18 February 2026: Protolabs, a global digital manufacturing company serving aerospace, defense, robotics, and medical devices industries, has established a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in India. The center will support the company’s AI transformation initiatives and lead development of ProDesk, a unified digital manufacturing platform designed to streamline processes from quoting to order fulfillment.
Accelerating AI and the “ProDesk” Ecosystem
Protolabs is known as the world’s fastest digital manufacturing service, providing prototyping and on-demand production through its in-house factories and a global network of partners. The India GCC will function as a core engineering and digital operations center for Protolabs’ global business. The primary focus is developing ProDesk, an integrated digital platform that unifies customer interactions across quoting, design validation, order processing, and production routing for both factory-direct and network-based manufacturing services.
To support its digital and AI initiatives, Protolabs has reorganized its technology group under Chief Technology and AI Officer Mark Kermesch, consolidating product management within technology to reduce internal silos and accelerate development.
The India team will build pricing engines, sourcing algorithms, and routing optimization systems that determine quote turnaround time, cost accuracy, and facility allocation. These systems form the operational backbone of Protolabs’ rapid manufacturing model, where speed, automation, and precision directly influence revenue and margins. The GCC will play a key role in Protolabs’ broader push to unify its online customer platforms and leverage automation, AI, and proprietary software.
“Protolabs is launching ProDesk, a unified digital experience to streamline quoting, design, and ordering processes for factory and network-fulfilled orders. This platform aims to reduce friction and improve efficiency in how customers interact with the company”
– Suresh Krishna, CEO Protolabs
