Bengaluru | 07 February 2026: Texas Instruments inaugurated a 5.5 Lakh Sq. Ft., Product R&D center in Bengaluru, marking exactly 40 years since TI became the first to establish an R&D presence in India in 1985. What started as a pioneering experiment in 1985 has evolved into large-scale semiconductor design and development operations.

A Critical Node for Advanced Semiconductor Design

The new facility focuses on advanced semiconductor innovation. It houses specialized integrated circuit (IC) design laboratories and a comprehensive end-to-end reliability laboratory that tests semiconductor products under extreme environmental conditions throughout the entire development lifecycle.

The center’s primary work involves developing analog and embedded processing technologies for global markets. These are the chips that go into automotive systems, industrial equipment, consumer electronics, and communications infrastructure-products where reliability is non-negotiable and failure means recalls, lawsuits, or safety incidents.

By centralizing these engineering functions in Bengaluru, TI’s using Indian talent to drive global product roadmaps. It’s a core product development that determines what chips TI sells worldwide.

TI has been a true pioneer in India’s semiconductor journey and stood as a testament of consistently nurturing the design talent ecosystem in India. The company’s expanded investment reinforces India’s position as a global hub for semiconductor design, development and supports our vision of building an innovation-led nation.”

Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Railways, IT, and Electronics

“TI India’s product development and design teams drive research and breakthrough innovations for customers worldwide. Our world-class engineers are central to pioneering the next generation of semiconductor advancements.”

– Santhosh Kumar, President and Managing Director of Texas Instruments India

From Cost to Value

The evolution of TI’s India operations mirrors a broader shift in global capability centers. Earlier offshore models focused primarily on cost efficiency, whereas current investments prioritize access to deep technical talent and high-value engineering execution.

Semiconductor design-particularly analog and embedded systems- demands specialized expertise that accumulates over long time horizons. TI’s four-decade presence has enabled the development of institutional knowledge, engineering processes, and ecosystem relationships that support advanced product development.

The company’s expanded footprint also includes strengthened sales and customer engagement functions, signaling operational maturity. Integrating engineering, validation, and customer-facing capabilities within India allows for faster execution cycles and closer alignment between product development and market needs.

Looking Ahead

TI’s Bengaluru expansion highlights how sustained, multi-decade investment can transform an early offshore experiment into a globally integrated engineering hub. The presence of advanced design and reliability infrastructure positions the center to contribute directly to the development of semiconductors used in safety-critical and high-performance applications.

As India builds fabrication and semiconductor infrastructure under national policy initiatives, design centers with established engineering depth become increasingly valuable. The integration of design, validation, and customer-facing operations within a single ecosystem supports faster iteration, improved quality assurance, and greater operational autonomy.

The facility also underscores the strategic importance of long-term talent ecosystem development. Semiconductor engineering relies on cumulative expertise, and Bengaluru’s maturity in this domain enables companies to execute high-complexity work at global standards. TI’s continued expansion suggests confidence in India’s ability to support next-generation semiconductor innovation while reinforcing the country’s role in distributed global product development.
