Indian IT services firm Infosys has secured a major contract worth approximately ₹14,000 crore (about £1.2 billion) from the UK’s National Health Service Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) to develop a next-generation workforce management system. The deal runs for 15 years and involves building the Future NHS Workforce Solution, which will replace the existing Electronic Staff Record (ESR) system currently used to manage payroll and workforce operations for around 1.9 million NHS employees across England and Wales.

The new platform will be data driven and powered by advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, aiming to streamline key HR processes including recruitment, onboarding, payroll, career development, and retirement planning. It aligns with the NHS’s 10-year Health Plan goals to modernise workforce systems and improve operational efficiency so healthcare workers can focus more on patient care.

Infosys CEO Salil Parekh said the partnership builds on the company’s digital transformation expertise and its AI platform, Infosys Topaz. NHSBSA leadership noted the initiative goes beyond simply replacing legacy systems, positioning the new solution as a strategic tool to help attract and retain talent and support long-term workforce planning. This contract is one of the most significant public sector IT deals for Infosys in recent years.
