Tamil Nadu’s industries minister T.R.B. Rajaa says the state is “regaining lost ground” in attracting Global Capability Centres, rather than merely catching up with other Indian tech hubs. Rajaa acknowledged that Tamil Nadu had previously slipped from its GCC leadership position due to infrastructure gaps, like limitations on floor space index (FSI) and slower airport development, but stressed that these issues are now being actively addressed through policy fixes and single-window reforms.

He highlighted the state government’s renewed push to make Tamil Nadu a preferred destination for GCC investments by improving ease of doing business and infrastructure. A key part of this strategy is positioning Hosur as an emerging GCC hub due to its strategic location and talent connectivity.

Rajaa also spoke about the need for GCCs to reinvent themselves with a focus on next-generation technologies such as artificial intelligence, and pointed to Chennai as a prime location for that transformation thanks to its strong talent base. He underscored Tamil Nadu’s skilled workforce as a core competitive advantage that will help draw multinational firms in tech, banking, automotive, and life sciences sectors.
