A Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) report highlights Tiruchirapalli’s rising potential as a major destination for Global Capability Centres (GCCs). The city’s highly educated workforce is a key strength, with more than 180 higher education institutions producing around 55,000 graduates annually, creating a deep talent pool for technology, services and research roles. CII has formed a task force that includes industry leaders and local government officials to engage top GCCs across India, aiming to bring a significant share of them to Tiruchi from larger metro hubs.

The appeal of Tiruchirapalli lies in its competitive operating costs, low attrition rates, and quality of life that supports work-life balance. Good physical connectivity by road, rail and air enhances access to major cities, and planned flight expansions are expected to boost global linkages. To strengthen the city’s position further, the report calls for greater alignment between academic curricula and GCC skill requirements, ensuring graduates are industry ready. Sectors such as semiconductors, logistics, supply chain, and banking and financial services are seen as priority areas for GCC investments. The initiative reflects a broader strategy to decentralize global business services to emerging tier-II Indian cities.
